 Food In Schools

Food in Schools is a strand of Food and Cornwall, encompassing everything that surrounds food and food culture within the school environment working to support 'Good Food for All in the School Community'. The principles of the Food in Schools programme are very much in line with the School Food Plan, and we are proud to work with a number of local and national partners.

Food in Schools offers a wealth of training and support to enrich and improve whole school approach to food, as well as food education and food culture. In line with the changes to Ofsted's inspection framework (September 2015), Food in Schools is pleased to offer the Food in Schools award. This is a great way of structuring your approach to food, as it encompassing the quality of school meals, food education and partnership working with families and the community. The key principle of the award is to keep local, Cornish food at the heart of the approach. To find out more information about the award, click here

Through the Cornwall Healthy Schools and Food in Schools team, the following training is available, free of charge:

  • Lunch time supervisor training
  • Healthier lunchbox workshops
  • School cook’s network meetings
  • Growing training
  • Cooking training

Food in Schools is embedded in the Cornwall Healthy Schools award status, through the Eating Well core theme. If your school completes the Food in Schools award, you will not be required to complete the Eating Well section of the Annual Audit. We have integrated the two awards together to ensure that schools receive maximum recognition for the work they are doing.
