Trussell Trust Foodbank Use Remains at Record High

Date: 28 Apr 2016

The Trussell Trust has released it's yearly figures on foodbank usage, and unfortunately foodbank use continues to increase year upon year.

There is a 2% rise on last years figures when looking at foodbank use, with 1,109,309 emergency food packages being handed out in the last year to those in crisis...415,866 of these went to children.

Nearly 100,000 of these crisis supplies were handed out in the South West region.

Benefit changes and delays are the biggest cause of foodbank use, accounting for 42% of referrals, with low income second in line at 23%.

The Trussell Trust has begun mapping foodbank data alongside census data to gather a better understanding the drivers of foodbank use and the areas of greatest need.
